How Property Managers Can Help Protect the Earth

It is easy-peasy to make small changes that make a big impact on our Earth, after all, we only have one Earth right.

Here are a few ways that you can start today:

1)    Conserve Water – This is a big one for the California area! Check the faucets, toilets, and pipes for leaks, install low-flow faucets, water-saving showerheads or flow restrictors, low-flow toilets, set the sprinklers to water the lawn (not the sidewalk or gutter) in the morning when it’s cool, and be sure it’s a deep-soak so it seeps into the roots and usually 1 or 2 times a week is sufficient. The less water used, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end up in the ocean.

2)    Consider planting a tree that helps save energy, clean the air, and adds curb appeal to the property.

3)    Switch to LED lightbulbs – You can conserve energy, cut utility bills, protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by switching to LED lightbulbs.

4)    Add filtration to your water system, it provides fresh water from the tap which encourages less usage of plastic bottles.

5)    Consider setting up a recycling container or bin in the garage or in a convenient living space to encourage and make it easy for everyone in the house to recycle.

6)    Plant plants - Simply add a container of a nectar plant to your doorstep, garden, or balcony and you will be inviting beautiful butterflies, moths, and other pollinators to your home. The good news is you don’t need a green thumb to be able to grow a plant that helps to create butterflies and nourishes bees. Our favorite plants are the Milkweed and Butterfly Bush. Both are excellent choices for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds and they grow perfectly in their container.
