Decorate on a Budget

Decorating your home doesn’t have to drain your bank account, there are plenty of ways to get a new look with items you already have!

Freshen up the home by rearranging your furniture. Get a new look by moving a few furniture items around. Change up your shower curtain, throw rugs, cushions, lamps or add a throw blanket to your couch. Consider adding a shelf with pegs and hooks for access to the everyday items you use, it’s sure to help with the organization too.

Change out your current photographs with different ones, even dig deep for some really old photographs of family members or places you’ve been to. Or along those lines, display some souvenirs or family heirlooms for a great conversation piece when you are entertaining.

Add some greenery for color. If you’re like me, I do not have a green thumb, what I’ve done is take one of my vases, take a stem from a leafy plant, add water, and you are done. Just remember to add water when you see it getting low. You’ll be surprised how the roots grow and fill up the vase. If live plants are not your thing, add a pop of color to your home throughout with a scented candle (for a wonderful aroma too), or perhaps a silk or dried floral arraignment.

How about doing a fresh coat of paint? I bet you can find those leftover cans of paint to refreshing up the walls. If not, try changing one wall to a different color.

Restore or paint your furniture. Add a new stain finish to the old wood. Change out the knobs, pulls, or handles giving your cabinets a new look. Don’t forget you can also reupholster your furniture.

If you are looking to add a theme to your décor, or simply want something different, check out the major discount stores, home consignment shops, local thrift shops, or even the Saturday garage/yard sales. You can also try to snag a bargain at auction stores or flea markets.
