As the holidays approach, each family looks forward to their traditions. Everyone who has a smartphone now has a camera. Some are better at remembering to capture those special moments and with practice, your photos will get better. Everyone will snap more and better photos if you take time to create a few photo-taking spots around the house. And why not put a few props in a decorated box, with things like Santa hats, reindeer antlers, candy canes, and more.

Our dining rooms aren’t used much these days so it’s fun to dress them up for the holidays. Try saving money by using things you have and dressing them up. Add glitter to inexpensive candles, pine cones, seashells, or whatever you have buried in your closets. Stretch your time and money by using things that can be left out for several months to celebrate winter, especially those living in the south but missing the snow from your childhood. Use small, twinkling LED lights to add a special touch.
If you need more room on the table, you can decorate the dining hutch or fireplace mantel instead. Don’t forget to think through which areas will offer the best photo opportunities. Also consider that long after your guests have gone home, certain decorations can be enjoyed for many months.
